02 Mar WHY DO WE ASK YOU TO WEAR CYCLE SHOES?
I specifically remember my first ride class at Bodhi& Ride. I entered having no idea what I was in for. I was handed a size eight pair of shoes. Confused, I took the shoes and proceeded to put them on. It didn’t take me long to realise they were in fact, cycling-specific shoes I had never worn before. Not only was I confused but I was also curious. Of all the spin classes I’ve been too, none have ever provided specific shoes to cycling. It was time to research.
Wearing cycling shoes specific for spinning class promotes efficient movement throughout the whole pedal stroke. It allows you to use the quadriceps and hamstrings effectively throughout the pedal stroke and to properly recruit secondary muscle groups like the calves and the shin muscles.
The power distributed throughout the legs is more balanced, providing stability to the knees, reducing foot movement. Something I have personally realised is that cycling shoes reduces foot discomfort because your cycling shoes are attached to the pedal.
The cycle-specific shoes are a huge benefit to your body. It’s important not to be intimidated by them as they’re purely worn to improve health and comfort and when on the bike.
